Geniuses Behind the Scenes

We all know the faces that play the music, but what do we really know about the unsung geniuses behind them? As part of our podcast series we will introduce you to some of the fabulous people behind the hits, the tours and your favourite artists' success.

Every now and again the universe introduces you to people. People who become part of your soul tribe, and I can honestly say this genius behind the scenes belongs in mine. I’ve been lucky enough to know Michael Cowell for too long, but I can’t gate-keep this brilliant mind.

Michael is a commercial artist specialising in the world of music. You may not know it, but you’ve probably already experienced some of his artwork. His limited edition hand printed gig posters have graced walls around the world for acts as diverse as The National, Kyuss, High on Fire, The Dandy Warhols and Queens of the Stone Age. He also gets his hands dirty illustrating and designing music packaging for a selection of other artists, including a wonderful band called Spectral. (Thanks Mike)

Of course, that isn’t enough. His skills in ink, paint, print and digital media has led him to participate and co-curate more than fifty exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States. The dude is even in a tome of a coffee-table book on the history of art and music.

During our research into The Rose: Come Back to Me Documentary we had the absolute pleasure of talking to two geniuses behind the scenes. Producer extraordinaire Diane Quon and mastermind Director and Screenwriter Euguene Yi.

Quonco Productions was founded in 2016 by Diane Quon. Previously a Marketing Executive at NBC and Paramount Pictures, Diane began her foray into documentary making in 2015 and never looked back. Producing such works as Minding the Gap (2018), Bad Axe (2022) and Wuhan Wuhan (2021); she very quickly found herself a recipient of the 2022 Cinereach Producer Award and an Oscar and Emmy nominee for her works. She is currently developing a fictional film based on the New York Times best seller ‘Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet’.

LA Native Eugene Yi began his career in 2004 as a grip and began his steady ascent to the Directors helm. With nearly fifty credits to his name Eugene has worked on such illustrious films as Free Chol Soo Lee (2022), The Reader (2008) and Margin Cell (2011). Emmy Nominated for Outstanding Business and Economic Documentary for American Reframed

Based in LA, JJ has mixed a truly eclectic array of music from Disney to Papa Roach, Hollywood Undead to Conor Matthews, Mothica to Shaylen, and of course a rather epic little album by the name of Dual by a band called The Rose.
